Benteng Kuto Besak

This fortress had been built for about 17years (1780-1797) and called Benteng Kuto Besak (BKB). It is surrounded by rivers, Kapuran River (now Merdeka Street) and Musi River at north, Sekanak river at west, and Tengkuruk river at east. Just like Kapuran River, Tengkuruk River was also piled up with soil by Dutch government in 1930 to make the road.

Some people believe that the fortress was made of eggs and cow’s bone to strengthen the construction instead of cement. It is 290 meters at length, 180 meters at width, and 7,20 meters at height.
